The initial idea of forming the Independent Pike Anglers came about as a result of a group of pike anglers talking to each other in November 2005 who were not wanting involved in the politics or bureaucracy of any other similar societies. Their main aim and always will be is simply to partake in the pastime they all love….Pike Fishing, no competitions, no raffles or tombolas simply fishing.

The membership of the IPAS is restricted to a maximum of 15, membership is by invitation only, the reason for this is not because we think we are elitist or wish to alienate ourselves from others it is simply because the initial founders know enough anglers within the area who share our devotion to pike angling the countryside laws and most importantly the welfare of the pike and its habitat. The purpose of the club is so that as a body we can organise outings knowing that everyone involved is capable of fishing in a correct and safe manner both respect to themselves and the pike, Netting, handling, weighing and returning pike to the water safely after capture with limited stress to the fish.

As would be expected, detailed records of all fish caught by members are recorded and kept on the clubs database, these are available to any organisation or anyone with a scientific or other interest that has the welfare of the Pike in mind, they will however not be given ad-lib to anyone who asks. Fish care is utmost of the clubs priorities and members will at all times assist others whom they come across whilst fishing who either simply do not know or are simply scared of pike, whether it be unhooking, handling or safe return of catches, after all a dead pike benefits no one. All Lochs, lakes or fishery rules are strictly adhered to when we are fishing i.e. Permits bought when required, live or non live baiting rules and last but not least, no rubbish of any description will be left behind, this has in the past led to banning of ALL anglers from some of the finest stretches of water in the country, why assist the Antis by banning yourself.
